the Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour,is back again for fall 2026.

The Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour isn’t just a basic night opening.
You walk through the palace with a guide,
and enjoy a stroll through the Secret Garden, traditional performances, royal reenactments, and even traditional refreshments
all in one beautifully curated experience.

I’ve done it myself,
and the atmosphere feels completely different from a regular daytime visit.
It really stayed with me,
so I’d absolutely recommend it as a Seoul date night idea too.

Today, I’m pulling together everything about the 2026 fall Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour—
from booking dates and how to reserve, to the program lineup and my own firsthand review.
Here’s the full guide in one place.

Changdeokgung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Changdeokgung Palace is especially famous among Joseon-era palaces
for being designed to follow the natural landscape as closely as possible.

The ponds and pavilions in the Secret Garden,
along with the palace layout blending into nature,
are exactly why it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It’s lovely during the day,
but on the Moonlight Tour, you get to see Injeongjeon Hall lit up at night
and continue on to Nakseonjae and the Secret Garden,
so the whole place feels completely transformed.

2026 Fall Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour Schedule

The 2026 fall Moonlight Tour
runs from September 10 to October 17, 2026.

During that period, it operates every Thursday through Sunday,
with a total of six sessions each day.

The total number of participants for this fall season
is capped at 3,864 peopleoverall,
so if you have a specific date in mind,
it’s worth checking as quickly as possible.

2026 Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour Booking Guide

Once again, the reservation system is a lottery.

Lottery applications
were open from 2:00 p.m. on August 20
to 11:59 p.m. on August 26
through Ticketlink,
and each account could apply only once.

Winners were announced at 5:00 p.m. on August 28,
and the booking window for selected applicants
ran from 2:00 p.m. on August 29 through September 2.

If you didn’t win the lottery, it’s not necessarily over.

Remaining tickets go on sale at 2:00 p.m. on September 3
on a first-come, first-served basis,
so it’s still worth trying for canceled tickets or leftover spots.

Visitors age 65 and older, people with disabilities,
and national merit recipients or holders of a Veterans Registration Card
can also book by phone.

Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour Route

On the Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour, you follow a guide
through the palace’s main halls and the Secret Garden
at a relaxed pace.

The official route includes
Geumcheongyo Bridge, Injeongjeon Hall
Nakseonjae, Yeongyeongdang Hall, and the Secret Garden area.

At Sangnyangjeong Pavilion near Nakseonjae, there’s a daegeum bamboo flute performance,
and at Buyongji Pond, you can watch
“A Stroll with the Royal Family,” a reenactment of a royal procession.

At the end, in Yeongyeongdang Hall,
you’ll enjoy a traditional Korean ensemble performance
along with traditional refreshments.

When I went myself,
I entered the palace right around sunset,
and the moment the lights slowly started coming on was honestly stunning.

Even though you’re still in the middle of Seoul’s dense cityscape,
the deeper you go into the Secret Garden,
the more the city noise fades away,
and the dark wooded paths mixed with the palace lighting
create a mood that feels nothing like walking through Changdeokgung during the day.

What makes the Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour so special
is that you get to explore places like the Secret Garden and Buyongji Pond—areas that are not always easy to see freely—
with cultural commentary along the way.That’s easily its biggest charm.

For fall 2026, there will also be dedicated sessions
for international visitors.

They’ll run on September 20, September 27, October 4, and October 11,
for a total of four dates,
with English, Chinese, and Japanese interpretation available.

More than just a quick lap around the palace,
this experience feels like stepping into a night in the Joseon dynasty,
which is exactly what makes it so memorable.
It’s a genuinely special program.

You get the guided storytelling, a walk through the Secret Garden,
traditional performances, and refreshments,
so the 100 minutes go by much faster than you’d expect.

Especially in September and October, when the weather turns cooler,
it’s perfect for an evening walk,
whether you’re planning a Jongno date night
or a Seoul outing with your parents.

If you want to spend
a slightly more memorable night in Seoul, South Korea this fall,
the Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour is absolutely worth doing.

There is no parking inside the palace grounds.

Use the Hyundai Gyedong Office parking lot nearby
(base rate: about $2 for 30 minutes)

or the street parking spaces in front of Wonseo Park.
