Noryangjin, Seoul, South Korea
Willow House
Words & photos by Sseoz
Hi there.
Let’s head out together again—
travel blogger Sseozhere.
I had a reason to go to Noryangjin with a friend,
and while looking for a nearby date spot,
I found out that, for Yuhan Corporation’s 100th anniversary,
a newly opened space called Willow Househad just launched—so I went to check it out!
Willow House: 74 Noryangjin-ro, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, South Korea
10:00–18:00
General admission is free
Mind Recovery Journey requires advance reservation
Early-bird booking on Naver: $7
Free docent tours at 10:00 / 13:00 / 15:00 / 17:00
Created to celebrate Yuhan Corporation’s 100th anniversary,
Willow House is the company’s former headquarters reimagined as a new cultural space.
It’s not just a place to look at exhibits—
you can also join the Mind Recovery Journey,
an immersive experience designed to help you reflect on your emotions and personality.
I tried it with a friend,
and it was fun comparing our results afterward.
More than that, it gave me a chance to really check in with myself.

It’s a multi-purpose cultural space created by preserving
Yuhan Corporation’s former headquarters, with both exhibitions and hands-on experiences, and honestly,
for someone like me who’d been worn out by work lately,
the mind assessment experience—where you really look inward—
came at exactly the right time….
Noryangjin date course, Willow House

If you walk from Exit 6 of Noryangjin Station,
the red-brick exterior of the building
catches your eye from a distance.
This was actually
Yuhan Corporation’s old headquarters.

They preserved the look of the original building,
but the inside has been redesigned in such a stylish, thoughtful way
that the space itself is genuinely beautiful…
You can really feel the weight of
Yuhan Corporation’s 100-year history in the building.

I first checked in on the first floor of the Yuhan Archive
for my reserved exhibition,
then spent some time looking around before my experience started.

The “Mind Recovery Journey” immersive exhibition
runs by advance reservation,
but the Willow House space itself
is free to explore!
(Free docent tours at 10:00 / 13:00 / 15:00 / 17:00)
The immersive exhibition starts right on the hour,
and if you book an early-bird slot through
Naver, it costs $7. 🙂

It begins with the Media Art Hall at the first-floor entrance,
then continues to the Memorial Hall, where you can learn about Dr. Ilhan New’s life,
and the Vision Hall,
where you can see Yuhan Corporation’s past and present products, all connected in one flow.

There were so many products I’d seen since childhood,
and I kept thinking,
Wait, this was Yuhan too?

Especially while learning about Dr. Ilhan New’s life,
my friend and I ended up having a much deeper conversation than I expected.
Of course it’s important to stay busy and work hard,
but what values am I actually living by?
How much warmth
am I really sharing with other people?
It naturally led me to questions like that.

And by the end, the two of us were quietly saying,
We really should live a little more simply…..

And then finally,
it was time for the mind assessment experience I had booked!!
Once the experience begins,
you’re given a wristband
that stores your information.

At each stage, you tag the wristband,
and the choices you make
along with your psychological analysis are saved one by one.
In the first stage, “Opening the Mind,”
you enter your information at the welcome station
and complete a short personality pre-assessment.

Next, in “Mindscape,”
you encounter a large-scale media artwork
inspired by the willow tree, Yuhan Corporation’s symbol.
Along with calming frequencies,
you spend about five minutes fully focused on the video.

And honestly, I was so immersed here…..
I completely lost track of time.
Watching the willow tree and nature imagery
fill the entire space
made the rushed, cluttered feeling I’d walked in with
slowly settle down.

And from this point on,
the real exploration of my inner world begins.
The next section, “Mind Walk,”
unfolds in three stages: Tree Stump of the Mind / Pond of the Mind / Grove of the Mind.

This isn’t your typical personality quiz.
Using the shape and symbolism of a willow tree,
it asks what roots make me who I am,
what emotions I’ve been pretending not to notice lately,
and what kind of relationships I form with other people.
Step by step,
you discover the roots that shape you
and gradually complete your own branches.

At first, it felt a little embarrassing—
like I was laying everything about myself out in the open—
but as I moved through each part and built my tree,
at some point,
I found myself naturally facing my emotions.

I realized that the starting point of the heaviness I’d been feeling lately
was actually anxiety.
Seeing that clearly in front of me
made me think,
Wow, I’ve really been pretending I’m fine,
and it made me want to give myself a little grace.

Personally, the part that stayed with me the most
was the final stage, “Grove of the Mind”!
I’ve always thought of myself
as someone a little closed off,
but as I followed the results,
I realized there are
more perspectives shaping and reflecting me than I expected.
In the end, the version of myself I carry in my own head
isn’t the whole story.
That part really gave me a lot to think about…
Finally, in “Among the Birdsongs,”
you tag your wristband one more time,
and based on everything collected so far,
your personality type is revealed!!
I had a feeling this might be mine,
and sure enough, I got
“Spark Mega Booster”—
a person whose inner lights are all switched on,
with a strong sun shining in the heart.
My friends have always told me things like,
“You have so much energy that I worry about you sometimes,”
or “It’s amazing how hard you throw yourself into everything,”
so
the result itself didn’t shock me too much.

But what I needed most, apparently, was more breathing room…..
They said passion and rest need to exist together
if you want your light to last.
Lately, I’ve been thinking I need to give everything 100% all the time,
and it made me wonder if I’ve been pushing myself too hard.
Going forward, if I want to sustain myself for the long run,
I probably need to build in real breaks along the way.

In the final “Mind Recovery” stage,
based on your results,
they brew you a cup of blended tea.
I received white tea.
The aroma and flavor weren’t too strong,
and it was clean and delicate overall,
which made it perfect for slowly sipping after the experience.

My friend and I sat there together
comparing our results
and talking about all kinds of things,
and personally,
that ended up being my favorite part.
My friend got a type that was completely opposite from mine,
so we joked that maybe
the two of us should mix our personalities together….

I’ve been living at full speed,
trying to stay productive every single day,
doing my best to hold it all together,
but it made me wonder:
how much time have I actually spent checking in with myself?

After the experience, you can also stop by
Teahouse Jeolgiright next door.

with over 2,000 pieces on display,
so if your visit lines up with those dates,
make sure to see it along with the immersive exhibition.

The weather has been getting cooler lately,
and all I’d been thinking about was going out and doing something outdoors,
but after spending time in a meaningful place like this
and enjoying an indoor immersive exhibition for a change,
I actually left feeling much more at ease.
Especially because I went with a friend,
we ended up talking about worries and thoughts
we normally wouldn’t have brought up,
which made me think this would be great
for a date or a meaningful outing with a friend.

A lot of people come to Noryangjin Fish Market,
but if you want to do more than just eat something good and call it a day,
take some time to explore 100 years of Yuhan Corporation’s history
and reflect on your own mind too
at Willow House. Definitely add it to your list~!
